2010 Perth Autosalon

After an absence last year, Autosalon returned to Perth last weekend. Once again held at the Perth Convention Centre, the organizers set a new minimum criteria for cars entering.
This was a good thing. No longer were $500 cars with big sound systems on display. The visual quality of the cars entered was far superior to the previous event. There also a larger mix of cars on display. No longer was the show restricted to Import scene.
One thing that was noticeable was the smaller number of cars on display.

The show format was good, visitors on both days appeared to be large and constant during both days. What was missing compared to Autosalon’s in other countries were displays from companies like Nissan, Honda etc displaying their high performance models and more of the performance parts companies. But then again, Perth often misses out on displays like this. Local companies like Alberts Hi-Fi, WA Performance, Tech9Tyres, Just-Car Insurance, Juice Car Polishes, Vibes Sound Systems (came over from the east coast), Perth Street Scene TV and a few others all had displays at the show.

It might be Winter, but the world keeps turning

Winters here, the WA Drags are in their Winter break, It’s cold but there is still stuff happening.

2010-2011 DRAG RACING

Firstly, the 2010-2011 Drag calendar has been released.

The seasons starts in September with the Whoop Ass Wednesdays and the first major event being the ever popular Fast Friday on October 15 with the Grand Opening on October 30th. Most of the major Drag Events are now two days events and there are 3 Andra Pro Series events schedule – Top Doorslammers, Top Bike and Top Fuel.
Some events not listed this coming season include Hi Tech Titles and Nostalgia Drags. Whether these events will eventuate, we will just have to see.
One new event this season is the Ultimate Bracket event on February 26th.
Saturday February 26 will see the Perth Motorplex conducting a sportsman bracket meeting designed to be a perfect opportunity for Sportsman racers to have a hit out prior to the 40th annual Westernationals the following weekend – and to be a whole heap of fun to boot!
The Bracket event is open to all Sportsman (Groups 2 and 3) racers.

Cranksters Winter Madness #2 – Build a 57 Chev in 3 days – Day 3 & Final Report

Day 3 of the three day build started early. There was still a lot to be done before the 57 could be driven out of the shed. One of the main things was to join the body to the chassis.
But first, there was a pancake breakfast.

The crew were fed well, 3 meals a day and cooked by some talented guys and girls. Gotta love Italians and there pastas

LATE Sunday night, and exhaust had been fitted, all the work benches moved out of the way and the chassis moved behind the body. The dash was also installed ready for the wiring in the morning.

The body still needed quite a bit of work done before it was ready to drop back on the chassis. Chris started work putting the doors together with young Chevy, while a workforce got stuck into the rest of the body. Jobs like wiring the dash and ignition, fitting the side windows, the outside flash trims and door chrome strips were fitted before the body was mated with the chassis.

Cranksters Winter Madness #2 – Build a 57 Chev in 3 days – Day 2 Report

Late last night, Scully finished the doors and the body and chassis were painted ready for the workers today and the upholsterers had finished the roof lining.

SO once the days work list was sorted, it was back into. Now the body is painted, there’s a lot to be done. First thing was to sort out and install the new wiring harness. Supplied by Autowire (USA), the harness was layed out and the job of installing began. The harness included everything from the ignition switch, light fittings through to the engine compartment.

Support our Crew, Don't steal our photos. They're not that expensive to buy and they don't have watermarks. We don't get paid to cover events and in many instances, actually have to pay for the right to shoot at them, so stealing photos (even watermarked ones), only makes us wonder why we bother.
